TSMC sues former executive who moved to Intel: Here's why
What's the story
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has filed a lawsuit against its former Senior Vice President Wei-Jen Lo in Taiwan's Intellectual Property and Commercial Court. The legal action comes after Lo's recent move to Intel. TSMC claims that there is a high risk of Lo using or leaking its trade secrets and confidential information to his new employer.
Legal basis
TSMC cites non-compete agreement
The lawsuit is based on the terms of Lo's employment contract with TSMC, as well as a non-compete agreement he signed. The company also cites regulations like the Trade Secrets Act in its legal action. Despite the serious allegations, Intel and Lo have yet to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings.
Professional journey
Lo's career at TSMC and Intel
Lo was instrumental in TSMC's mass production of advanced chips such as 5nm, 3nm, and 2nm nodes. He joined Intel in October after a successful 21-year stint at TSMC. As per Reuters, he reports directly to Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Prior to his time at TSMC, Lo spent 18 years at Intel where he held various positions including director of technology development and factory manager.
