Delhi: CAQM dismisses reports of GRAP-4 enforcement
What's the story
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has quashed reports that the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-IV has been enforced in New Delhi. The clarification comes amid reports of misinformation regarding the enforcement status. "At present, Stage-III of the extant GRAP is in force across the entire NCR," said CAQM in an official statement.
Current measures
CAQM confirms Stage-III measures in effect
The CAQM has confirmed that only Stage-III measures of the GRAP are currently in force. These measures include a ban on non-essential construction and demolition activities, restrictions on diesel generator usage, and stricter industrial pollution controls. Mechanical sweeping and water-sprinkling on roads have also been intensified under these measures.
Stage IV
GRAP-4 enforcement would mean stricter measures
The CAQM also clarified that GRAP-IV, the emergency tier of restrictions, has not been invoked. If enforced, Stage-IV would mean a complete ban on construction activities and the entry of polluting trucks into Delhi. It could also involve the closure of schools and non-essential commercial activities, along with possible restrictions on private vehicles based on odd-even schemes.
Official statement
CAQM urges public to rely on official updates
"At present, Stage-III of the extant GRAP is in force across the entire NCR. Stakeholders and the public are advised to rely only on official updates/press releases issued by the CAQM for NCR and adjoining areas," the official statement read. The commission's clarification comes amid confusion over the current status of GRAP enforcement in New Delhi.
