Delhi liquor shops to remain closed on Chhath Puja

What's the story

The Delhi government on Friday announced that a "dry day" will be observed in the national capital on November 19 on the occasion of Chhath Puja. "The licensees shall not be entitled to any compensation on account of any changes effected in the above list," stated the order. "All the licensees shall exhibit this order at some conspicuous place of their licensed premises," it added.

MCD's 10-point plan for Chhath Puja

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also formed a 10-point plan in order to ensure the smooth conduct of the four-day-long Chhath festivities, which commence on Friday with the Nahay Khay ritual. The MCD's 10-point plan includes measures like the construction of ghats and the provision of lights and washroom facilities at ghats, among several other facilities.

Speaking to PTI on Thursday, Delhi Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi confirmed that preparations for more than 100 artificial ghats were underway for Chhath Puja. "The Delhi government has been making provisions for artificial ghats for past several years; the MCD wants to provide similar facilities to people from Purvanchal so that they can celebrate Chhath happily," she added.
