Rohini slum fire: 1 dead, child hospitalized; cause unknown

A massive fire broke out late Friday night in a slum near Rithala Metro Station in Rohini, Delhi. The blaze gutted several huts and left one person dead and another injured. The deceased was identified as Munna (30), whose body was recovered from the site by local police. The injured child was rushed to a hospital for treatment, Times Now reported, quoting Fire Officer SK Dua.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the fire at 10:56pm on Friday. Initially, 15 fire tenders were sent to the spot, but as the flames spread rapidly, more units were deployed. A total of 29 fire tenders were eventually dispatched to control the blaze. The fire was declared "medium" intensity and brought under control by Saturday morning after hours of firefighting.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and investigations are underway. Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze started in one hut and spread quickly due to closely packed structures and LPG cylinder explosions. Police sources confirmed that these explosions triggered panic among residents, forcing many to flee their homes in the middle of the night.

Dua confirmed that the fire was brought under control and said, "We received information that a fire broke out in the huts of Bengali Basti... Fire tenders were sent to the spot... A total of 29 fire tenders are on the spot, and the fire is now under control." He added, "A kid was reportedly injured, and he has been sent to hospital via ambulance. There is no information about any further casualties."
