The revenue minister further stated in the Delhi assembly that all Sikh marriages will now be registered under the Anand Marriage Act and are not required to register under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 any longer.

"We have held several meetings in last three months and decided to implement provisions of the Act. New Sikh marriages will be registered under this act," he added.

Assurance on Act comes after BJP MLA's demand

The minister gave assurance on the government's implementation of the provisions of the Act after BJP MLA Manjit Singh Sirsa demanded the state to give them their rights as a minority community.

As per reports, Sirsa also urged, "Members to adopt a resolution for a separate Sikh identity, for which 'a minor constitutional amendment' was required."
