Delhi: Two arrested for honey-trapping 70-year-old, extorting money from him
Yesterday, a 23-year-old man, Parminder Singh and a 25-year old woman, were arrested for allegedly trying to honey-trap and then extort money from a 70-year-old contractor. After a complaint was filed, Delhi police launched an investigation and raided Singh's several possible hideouts. Investigation revealed that they were a part of a gang of seven members, who targeted rich and older men for money.
Gang targeted five men last month, says DCP
Their modus operandi would involve a woman, who would become physically intimate with the victim and the other gang members would stealthily film it to blackmail the men with false rape case to extort money. "In March, they targeted minimum five men with the same method. Those victims had decided not to approach the police due to social stigma," said Monica Bhardwaj, DCP (West).
25-year-old contacted victim on WhatsApp, latter decided to meet her
The contractor too was contacted by this 25-year-old woman on WhatsApp and after a lot of persuasion from her side, he decided to meet her on Monday. He took his 54-year-old friend along with him, while the woman was also accompanied by her friend. Thereafter, all four of them went to a rented place in Tilak Nagar area in New Delhi.
Gang threatened to show the video to victim's family
The contractor entered a room with the woman, and her friend locked the door from outside. Moments later, five people - three men and two women - rushed into the room. They threatened to charge the victim and his friend in a fake rape case. The gang had allegedly recorded the victim on camera and also threatened to show the video to his family.
Police nabbed Singh, multiple raids led to woman
"The gang stole Rs. 10,000 cash from the two men," said DCP. They also kept one man kept captive in Tilak Nagar, while another was escorted by Singh to fetch around Rs. 20 lakh, which the gang demanded as release amount. Meanwhile, the man outside managed to inform the police and Singh was nabbed. Multiple raids led to the woman, who honey-trapped the victim.
