AI to remaster classic martial arts films
The China Film Foundation just kicked off a big project to restore 100 legendary martial arts films with the help of AI.
Announced at the Shanghai International Film Festival, this move aims to upgrade image and sound quality while keeping each film's original vibe.
They also premiered "A Better Tomorrow: Cyber Border," which made waves as the world's first fully AI-made animated feature.
These films are 1st in line for restoration
Classics like "Fist of Fury," "The Big Boss," and "Drunken Master" are first in line for restoration, with 10 films prioritized to start.
The foundation's chair, Zhang Qilin, called these movies "important cultural symbols" that highlight their significance in showcasing the vitality and spirit of the Chinese people.
'A Better Tomorrow: Cyber Border'
"A Better Tomorrow: Cyber Border" is a cyberpunk spin on John Woo's classic, created entirely by an AI-driven team of just 30 people.
Producer Zhang Qing shared that using AI cut production time from years to months and helped turn creative ideas into reality much faster.
