Disney+ developing new 'Animorphs' series adaptation
What's the story
A new television adaptation of the popular children's fantasy book series Animorphs is in the works at Disney+, according to Variety. The show will be executive-produced by Proximity Media's Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler. Caitlin Friedman and Iole Lucchese from Scholastic will also executive produce. The original books were written by K.A. Applegate and her husband, Michael Grant.

What is the story of 'Animorphs'?
The upcoming Animorphs series will follow a group of teenagers who discover a hidden threat lurking beneath their everyday lives while balancing relationships, curfews, and high school chaos. The original book series followed five teens, Jake, Marco, Cassie, Rachel, and Tobias, who learn that Earth is being invaded by a parasitic alien race called the Yeerks. They later gain the ability to morph into any animal they touch with the help of an Andalite alien.

Who will work on the series?
Bayan Wolcott, known for his work on Hulu's The Testaments and FX's Class of '09, will write and executive produce the Animorphs series. Proximity Media's Dezi Gallegos and Simone Harris will oversee the project. 20th Television is the studio behind this adaptation. If successful, this will be the second Animorphs TV show after a live-action series that aired on Nickelodeon from 1998 to 2000.

The Animorphs book series has been a massive success since its debut in 1996 with The Invasion. It concluded after 54 titles, with the last one being The Beginning in 2001. The books have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have inspired various adaptations, including a Game Boy Color video game released in 2000.
