Simu Liu signs his first sci-fi thriller, 'Hello Stranger'
Simu Liu has joined the cast of Hello Stranger. The upcoming sci-fi thriller already has Sam Worthington, Jordana Brewster, Robbie Amell, and Alicia Sanz in its team of actors. To be helmed by April Mullen, Hello Stranger is currently filming in Toronto and makers are eyeing an early 2023 release. Liu was last seen in Women Is Losers, which hit HBO Max last October.
What is 'Hello Stranger' all about?
Hello Stranger will revolve around a widow, Faye (Brewster), who builds an android simulant (SIM) of her late husband Evan (Luke Grimes). The relationship between Faye and SIM Evan forms the core of the plot. Worthington (Jake Sully in Avatar and Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation) plays a government agent on a mission to hunt potentially dangerous SIMs. Meanwhile, Liu's role isn't known yet.
Meet the crew of 'Hello Stranger'
Tim Doiron and James van der Woerd are producing the venture via Wango Films. Notably, Mullen, Doiron, and Woerd have all worked together on Wander, a 2020 thriller that featured Tommy Lee Jones, Aaron Eckhart, Katheryn Winnick, Heather Graham, and Roger Dorman. Ryan Christopher Churchill has been given the duty to pen the script, while Myriad Pictures' Kirk D'Amico will executive produce Hello Stranger.
What else do we know of 'Hello Stranger'?
D'Amico is also handling international sales, while CAA Media Finance and Verve Ventures will take up the US sales and Mongrel will be the distributor in Canada. Talking about Liu, D'Amico said, "We are all tremendously excited... Simu Liu has joined the cast of Hello Stranger. We think Simu will absolutely do a great job with this pivotal role for April and the production."
Liu has 'Arthur The King', 'Barbie' too
Liu was widely applauded for Kim's Convenience but he gained worldwide fame with his performance in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings. He will next be seen in Arthur The King, which co-stars Mark Wahlberg. Liu has also recently joined the team of Margot Robbie-led Barbie, a live-action film about the popular doll. Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera round up its cast.
