Popular fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi to feature in a web-series

The fictional character created by acclaimed writer Saradindu Bandopadhyay, Byomkesh Bakshi, is set to feature in a new web series. After a series of different adaptations of the popular sleuth, the new series will star Anirban Bhattacharya as Byomkesh and Subrat Dutta as Ajit, his assistant. As per reports, the web series will be available on Bengali OTT destination Hoichoi.

    Who is Byomkesh Bakshi?

Byomkesh Bakshi is a fictional character that was introduced in a series by the same name. The series, directed by Basu Chatterjee, was telecasted on Doordarshan in 1993, and actor Rajit Kapur played the lead role.

    And why is he famous?

The fictional character first made his mark in a short story named Satyanveshi in early 1930s. Written by Saradindu Bandopadhyay, the stories chronicled a detective's tryst with uncovering some of the most eccentric mysteries. Fr over 80 years since, Byomkesh has been touted as Bengal's one of the most popular characters. Byomkesh is viewed along with the ranks of other characters like Sherlock Holmes.

New series targets the younger audience

"We are offering something distinctly different from the previous Byomkesh versions, a fast-paced thriller web series. This is a cooler version of Byomkesh, targeting the large segment of our youth viewers," the web series' director Sayantan Ghosal said.
