Veteran superstar Dharmendra (89), known as the "He-Man of Bollywood," has passed away. He was reportedly dealing with age-related ailments. The rumors of his death circulated on Monday after an ambulance was seen arriving at his residence. Dharmendra, who started his career in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, worked in over 300 movies, including Sholay, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, and Dharam Veer.

Karan Johar confirmed the news online 

Later on Monday, filmmaker Karan Johar posted a tribute to the veteran actor, confirming his demise. "It is an end of an ERA..... a massive mega star... the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema... incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence," wrote Johar about Dharmendra on Instagram. A statement from the Deol family is awaited.

Born in Punjab on December 8, 1935, Dharmendra married Prakash Kaur at 19 in 1954, years before his film career began. They have four children, actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and two daughters, Vijeta and Ajeeta. Dharmendra later married his co-star Hema Malini in 1980. They have two daughters together, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

Career

His film 'Ikkis' will release in December

During his long career, Dharmendra headlined several classic movies. These include Mera Karam Mera Dharam, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke, and The Burning Train. He was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024) and will posthumously feature in Ikkis, releasing on December 25. It's directed by Sriram Raghavan. May he rest in peace.
