'Game of Thrones' Season 8 breaks Guinness World Records

Game of Thrones is the most popular show on television right now. Not only has it set a record for taking home the most Emmy Awards in a single night (37), the show has also broken the record for the most pirated show ever. Recently, Game of Thrones' Season 8 broke the Guinness World Records for the most in-demand TV premiere.

17.4 million people watched the premiere within 24 hours

Guinness World Records partnered with global TV content analytics firm, Parrot Analytics, to figure out how popular the show really is. Turns out, around 17.4 million people watched the premiere on subscription TV, HBO GO, and HBO NOW streaming apps, within 24 hours of the episode's release. Basically, the show broke its own Season 7 premiere record for most in-demand TV premiere.

Season 8 premiered 2.9% higher than the show's last season's

"The final season has premiered 2.9% higher globally than its season seven premiere. Premiere day demand has been particularly strong in the United States, United Kingdom and France," Samuel Stadler, VP of Marketing, Parrot Analytics, was quoted as saying by Guinness World Records.

Here are other Guinness World Records held by the show

In 2015, Game of Thrones broke the Guinness World Records for being the most pirated TV show. The same year, the show also set a record for most viewers sharing a single torrent file simultaneously. In 2016, the show broke records for most Emmy wins, largest TV drama simulcast, most in-demand TV show, and most VES Awards won by a TV series.

'Game of Thrones' will continue breaking records: Guinness Editor

"It's broken records since it first aired - for viewership figures, Emmy wins, and even its status as the most pirated TV show! It looks like it's going to continue breaking records right up to the final," said Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief.

Here's what we can predict about the next episode

Going by the preview photos and teaser, Game of Thrones' next episode will show a mass funeral for the characters who died in the battle against the Army of the Dead. There are also shots of Daenerys Targaryen's fleet and what looks like a strategy meeting between Euron Greyjoy and Cersei Lannister. It seems the two Queens will finally face-off in the next episode.
