Ganesh Gaitonde: News

Ganesh Gaitonde is the lead character of the hit Netflix series ‘Sacred Games’ (2018). The series is based on Vikram Chandra's 2006 novel of the same name. The character was played by actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Gaitonde was born in 1959 in a small village in Maharashtra to a priest and beggar father. His mother was a prostitute. He killed his mother at the age of 10 or 11 years, after finding out about her profession. His father took the blame for the crime and was sent to prison. At the age of 20 years, he came under the wings of a drug dealer, whom he considered his second father. However, he and his long-time friend Mathu killed his second father, and gathered a bunch of low-life gangsters to start his own gang and eventually take over Gopalmath Scrapyard. His main enemy is another rival don, Suleiman Isa. In the second season of ‘Sacred Games,’ it is revealed that though Gaitonde was a gangster he was being used as a pawn by Guruji, to destroy Mumbai for over 20 years.
