Akshay-Saif's 'Haiwaan' opens poorly at just ₹3cr
What's the story
The Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Oppam, titled Haiwaan, has had a lackluster start at the box office. Directed by Priyadarshan and starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles, it raked in only ₹3 crore net in India on its opening day, as per Sacnilk. The film was released on Friday and is also the last project of legendary actor Asrani, who passed away in 2025.

'Haiwaan' crushed by 'Mirzapur' and 'Hanuman Ansh'
Haiwaan recorded an overall occupancy of around 11% across 7,224 shows on its first day.
It had a morning occupancy of about 5%, which increased to over 12% during the afternoon and evening shows and peaked at over 18% at night.
The worldwide gross collection stands at ₹4.6 crore.
It faced immense competition from Mirzapur: The Movie and Hanuman Ansh, released on September 4 and August 7, respectively.

The reported ₹3.6 crore India gross is even less than Bhool Bhulaiyaa's first-day earnings of around ₹3.88 crore in 2007, according to Box Office India.
For Khan, it is comparable to Ta Ra Rum Pum's opening of approximately ₹3.66 crore in 2007.
The movie also stars Saiyami Kher, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sharib Hashmi, Boman Irani, and Priyadarshan regulars Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Joshi.

The film reportedly had a budget of around ₹130 crore, with approximately ₹115 crore allocated for production and ₹15 crore for print and advertising.
