What's the story

At Bangkok, celebrities gathered for one of the biggest events on Bollywood calendar- the IIFA awards, on Sunday. Late actress Sridevi received the best actress award for her performance in 'Mom' at the 19th edition of IIFA. Irrfan Khan's stupendous performance in 'Hindi Medium' got him the best actor male award. The performances of many stars made it a night to remember.

'Tumhari Sulu' awarded best movie, 'Newton' best story

Vidya Balan starrer 'Tumhari Sulu' was awarded the best movie at the ceremony. Rajkummar Rao's 'Newton' (which was India's official entry to the Oscars) got the award for best story. 'Hindi Medium' helmer Saket Chaudhary won the award for best director. Pritam's work in Ranbir Kapoor's ambitious project 'Jagga Jasoos' got him award for the best background score.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mehr Vij won well-deserved supporting cast awards

Nawazuddin Siddiqui got the best actor (male) in supporting role award for 'Mom'. Mehr Vij took home award for best-supporting actress for her mindblowing performance in 'Secret Superstar'. Both Siddiqui and Vij were appreciated for their roles by critics when their movies had released.

Amit V Masurkar got the award for best story of 'Newton'. Nitesh Tiwari and Shreyas Jain were awarded best screenplay for 'Bareilly Ki Barfi'. Hitesh Kewalya got award for best dialogues for his work in 'Shubh Mangal Savdhan'. Arijit Singh got the best singer award for 'Hawayein' and best female singer award went to Meghna Mishra for 'Main Kaun Hoon' song from 'Secret Superstar'.

Vijay Ganguly and Ruel Dausan Varindani were declared best choreographers for 'Galti Se Mistake' in Jagga Jasoos. Marcin Laskawiec was given best cinematography award for 'Tiger Zinda Hai'. Shweta Venkat Mathew got award for best editing (Newton). Manoj Muntashir was given best lyricist award for 'Mere Rashke Qamar' from Baadshaho. Konkana Sen Sharma was awarded 'Best Debut Director Award' for 'A Death in Gunj'.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher was given the award for 'Outstanding Achievement by an Actor in Indian Cinema'. His close friend Anil Kapoor handed him the award. Kriti Sanon was given 'Best Style Icon of the Year' award. A performance by Rekha made IIFA 2018 memorable. Others who lit the stage on fire were Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Kartik Aryan.
