Will there be 'Avatar 4'? James Cameron hints at uncertainty
What's the story
James Cameron, the acclaimed director and co-writer of the Avatar series, recently spoke about the future of the franchise. The third installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is set to hit theaters on December 19. In a recent interview with Reuters, Cameron revealed that he has been considering various factors before deciding on sequels four and five.
Future plans
'Maybe it continues, maybe it doesn't'
Cameron said, "There are many, many variables ahead of us before we can talk about four and five and beyond." He added that the Avatar universe is open-ended and he has only imagined a few more stories. "Maybe it continues. Maybe it doesn't." The director also hinted at the high costs of producing these films due to their use of advanced motion-capture technology.
Audience behavior
Cameron's concerns over audience preferences and production costs
Cameron expressed concern over changing audience behavior due to the rise of streaming platforms. He believes that people still want to experience movies in theaters for a more profound experience. However, if he can't find a way to reduce production costs, he may be "doing something else" before doing the fourth and fifth Avatar films.
