Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' debuts on YouTube pay per view
Aamir Khan's film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is shaking things up by dropping first as a pay-per-view rental on YouTube before heading to SonyLIV.
This move tests the TVOD (transactional video-on-demand) model, pretty different from the usual subscription services most of us use.
Early reports say the YouTube rentals did surprisingly well, hinting that this pay-per-view approach could actually catch on in India.
India TVOD revenue 500cr to 740cr
Industry experts predict TVOD revenue in India will jump from ₹500 crore in 2025 to ₹740 crore by 2028, though subscriptions still rule for now.
Charu Malhotra from Primus Partners points out that TVOD works best for movies with big stars like Khan.
By switching over to SonyLIV after YouTube, the film aims to reach more paying subscribers and build a longer-term relationship between Aamir Khan and the platform, a smart move as streaming habits keep evolving here.
