What's the story

Marvel Studios unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming film, Thunderbolts, during the Super Bowl 2025 on Sunday (US time). This is the first footage released since a special sneak peek was shown at D23 Brazil in November. The film is described as an "irreverent team-up" of Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) "least anticipated band of misfits." It features characters from various MCU movies and series like Ant-Man and the Wasp, Black Widow, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The team works under CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Other Thunderbolts include Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Robert "Bob" Reynolds/the Sentry (Lewis Pullman).

Cast insights

'Thunderbolts' cast shared insights on their characters

In an interview with ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con, Harbour described his character as not being "the good guys." "We are not capable. [We're not] Captain America responsible. We don't show up on time. Punctuality is not our strong suit," he said. Stan, however, likened the anti-Avengers to another group: the brat pack of the 1985 John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club in a chat with Entertainment Tonight.
