New 'Star Trek' comic puts Uhura in the spotlight

Entertainment

Threads of Destiny, a new one-shot comic from IDW, is giving Star Trek's Nyota Uhura her moment to shine.
Written by Stephanie Williams and illustrated by Greg Maldonado and Anthony Fowler Jr., this story flips the script on a classic episode—this time, it's Uhura who travels back to 1963 through the Guardian of Forever, landing right in the middle of the Civil Rights movement.

Honoring Uhura and her real-world impact

This comic isn't just about adventure—it highlights the legacy of Nichelle Nichols, whose role as Uhura inspired generations.
Encouraged by Martin Luther King Jr., Nichols became a symbol for equality on TV, influencing stars like Whoopi Goldberg and even astronaut Mae Jemison.
The legacy lives on with Celia Rose Gooding playing Uhura today.
Threads of Destiny hits shelves February 25, 2026.
