Pallavi Joshi says filming 'Bengal Files' was 'emotionally draining'
What's the story
National Award-winning actor and producer Pallavi Joshi has spoken about the challenges she faced while working on The Bengal Files, now streaming on ZEE5. In an interview with News18 Showsha, she spoke about the responsibility of portraying a neglected part of Indian history and the immersive experience of filming. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film examines political violence in pre-partition Bengal.
Role challenges
'The whole character was emotionally challenging and draining'
Joshi revealed that the emotional depth of her character was a major challenge. She said, "I don't think there was any one particular scene which was very challenging. The whole character in itself was very emotionally challenging and draining because the emotions had to be carried throughout." "I couldn't even drop the ball even once."
Cinematic responsibility
'Cinema must awaken people': Joshi on her role
Joshi sees The Bengal Files as more than just a film. She believes it is her duty to bring untold stories of Indian history to light. "As actors and more importantly as a filmmaker, we need to explore new subjects. We need to show people what they haven't seen before," she said. "That's the whole purpose of cinema...to awaken people, to open their eyes and minds to things they haven't known or experienced."
Joshi's satisfaction
'I feel I have fulfilled my responsibility'
Joshi, who has always been drawn to socially and politically relevant cinema, feels that The Bengal Files is a continuation of her commitment to meaningful storytelling. "As a filmmaker and as an actor, I feel I have completed my responsibility," she said. The film is the third installment in Agnihotri's Files cinematic universe after The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files.
