'Family Man 3': Why Nimrat's role was initially written male
What's the story
In a revelation, The Family Man 3 co-creator Raj Nidimoru disclosed that the show's female characters were initially written without any gender specifications. Speaking to Zoom, he emphasized that the roles played by Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nimrat Kaur could have been easily portrayed by male actors. "Think of them as persons and not with gender," he said.
Character creation
'Never think it's a female character...'
Nidimoru further elaborated on his approach to character creation, stating, "Creating a character, man or woman, that's it. That is the biggest thing." He added that their roles were not specifically designed as female characters with certain expectations. "That's why most of these roles that you just listed could easily be played by men. All three roles you just listed could have been a man, and it would fit right there."
Role transformation
Nidimoru's insight into Kaur's character evolution
Nidimoru also shared that Kaur's role was originally written for a male actor. "I saw the similarity. We actually wrote Nimrat's role as a guy in the first draft and then we could easily switch," he said. "Suddenly, the female character became so interesting and exciting and unique." The Family Man 3 is set to premiere on Friday, November 21. Kaur plays Meera, the main antagonist this season.
