What's the story

Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor has reportedly begun shooting for her upcoming film Eetha, a biopic on legendary Tamasha artist Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar. The film is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films. According to Mid-Day, Kapoor underwent three months of training in the traditional Maharashtrian dance forms of Lavani and Gavlan before starting the shoot.

Cultural connection

Lavani-Gavlan are two folk dance forms that originated in Maharashtra

Kapoor's deep cultural roots in Maharashtra were a major factor in her selection for the role, reported sources. Her mother Shivangi Kolhapure is Maharashtrian, which gave Kapoor an edge over other actors. The source said, "Another advantage was her dancing skill since it formed a big part of Vithabai's life story." "Shraddha picked up Lavani and Gavlan, the two folk dance forms that originated in Maharashtra."

Plot details

Narayangaonkar's life will be depicted in 'Eetha'

Eetha will chronicle Narayangaonkar's life from the 1950s to the 1980s, narrating how she joined her family troupe at a young age and worked hard to restore her family's lost glory. Despite achieving fame and receiving the President's Award in 1957 and 1990, she reportedly struggled financially in her later years. The film also stars Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles.
