Taapsee Pannu reacts to longstanding feud with Kangana Ranaut
What's the story
Actor Taapsee Pannu has addressed her long-standing differences with actor-politician Kangana Ranaut. Speaking at the India Today Woman Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Pannu said she has never met Ranaut either before or after their public friction started. "I haven't met her. I didn't meet her before when these so-called issues started." "I haven't met her now as well," she said during a session titled Shabaash Taapsee!: From Shabana to Gandhari, Celebrating Women With Guts and Glory.
Different perspectives
'My opinion on her is reflective of my upbringing...'
Pannu further elaborated on her views about Ranaut.
She said, "My opinion on her is reflective of my upbringing and my way of talking, my way of perceiving things and hers... she stands by hers."
"So, I think that's enough for everybody to look and decide who comes from where."
Feud history
Understanding the Ranaut-Pannu feud
The feud between Pannu and Ranaut started in 2019 when Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel called Pannu a "sasti copy" of her sister on social media.
This was after Pannu praised the trailer of a film starring Ranaut.
The disagreement escalated in 2020 with discussions on nepotism and industry politics, where Ranaut called Pannu and others "B-grade actresses" and "needy outsiders."
However, Pannu has maintained that she never engaged in personal attacks against Ranaut.
Political aspirations
'I am too honest': Pannu on joining politics
During the session, when asked if she had ever thought about joining politics, Pannu was clear.
"I am too honest and vulnerable for this. Also, I want to do a few more films," she said.
"I am not at all considering joining, and I don't have the DNA for that."
She clarified that her interest in political issues is not from a political perspective but as an educated citizen of India who "studied civics" while growing up.
