'The Nun' earns Rs. 2,400cr globally, trumps other 'Conjuring' titles
'The Nun' was the latest addition to the Conjuring franchise and was met with lukewarm critical reception. However, as far as commercial success is concerned, the film has broken several barriers within its own franchise. It became the highest earning Conjuring title, grossing a global $330 million (Rs. 2,400 crore) and beating the $320 million (Rs. 2,329 crore) record, previously held by 'The Conjuring 2'.
Most profitable venture for the horror franchise
The money earned by 'The Nun' proves it enormous profitability. Notably, only $22 million (Rs. 116 crore) went into the filmmaking process. To put this in context, 'The Conjuring 2' came close to The Nun's figures with almost double the production cost. 'Annabelle: Creation' spent $115 million (Rs. 837 crore) and only made a profit of $108.7 million (Rs. 786 crore).
The markets that drove the profit machine
The popularity of 'The Nun' was immense in Spanish speaking markets. Among these, Mexico generated the highest revenue amounting to $21.5 million (Rs. 189 crore). Brazil and Spain were close behind with $17 million (Rs. 123 crore) and $10 million (Rs. 72 crore) respectively. Columbia too showed $6.2 million (Rs 43 crore) in earnings. In the USA, Hispanic audiences accounted for one-third of the total $109 million (Rs. 793 crore) that the film made.
Conquering the international scene
It was not just Hispanic audiences that loved the film, but global audiences too. 'The Nun' collected a total of $221 million making it the highest international earnings for any Conjuring film. The lucrative horror film by Colin Hardy was a favorite in France and the second favorite in Russia. The steady earnings even on the fourth weekend shows the film's widespread popularity.
