What's the story

Actor-filmmaker Sohum Shah, the star of Tumbbad, has revisited some Hollywood classics. He has revealed his fascination with the visual effects (VFX) in films like Jurassic Park and Terminator. "I was mesmerized by the fact that they managed to create such incredible VFX back in 2000," he told Variety India.

Limited exposure

'I had watched only four films...'

Shah admitted that he didn't have a deep connection with Hollywood films during his formative years.

"I am a very desi person. During my time, I had watched only four films, and even those were Hindi-dubbed: Titanic, Jurassic Park, Speed, and True Lies," he said.

However, his perspective changed as he delved deeper into filmmaking and writing.

Creative inspiration

'You need to find inspiration from somewhere'

Shah believes that watching international films is an integral part of his creative process.

He thinks filmmakers should explore cinema from different cultures to keep finding new ideas.

"You have to watch films when you're making something like this. I watch a lot of content for writing as well," he said.

"You can't just remain in your own bubble."

"You have to watch things because you need to find inspiration from somewhere."

Dream visits

Shah would love to visit James Cameron's 'Terminator' set

When asked which director's set he would like to visit, Shah said, "James Cameron! I really like him. I think Terminator is a fantastic film."

He is also interested in seeing how Jurassic Park and Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings were made. But his top pick remains Terminator.

Meanwhile, Shah's Tumbbad 2 has added two new A-listers to the cast, Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

It will release on December 3, 2027.
