The much-loved Sanjay Leela Bhansali series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, is gearing up for its second season. Vibhu Puri, one of the writers of the show, confirmed to Mid-Day that they are currently in the writing stage and will start filming soon. "We are currently in the writing stage, exploring the characters and [their] storylines," he said. The show starred Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Sharmin Segal.

'Heeramandi' sequel to explore courtesans' displacement
The first season of Heeramandi ended with the courtesans joining the freedom struggle. The upcoming season will explore their displacement as they transition into the Hindi and Bengali film industries. "We should be able to start filming it very soon," Puri said. New characters will also be introduced in the second installment, following the deaths of Richa Chadha and Aditi Rao Hydari's characters in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

'Heeramandi' sequel faces high expectations
Given the success of its first season, expectations for the sequel are understandably high. Puri told the outlet, "People had doubted whether the show would work with the current generation and if they would understand it, but they embraced the world of Heeramandi," he said. The first season was released on Netflix in May last year.
