1 in 3 Indians show early signs of metabolic syndrome: Study

India

A new study says nearly one in three Indians—including a rise among people in their 30s and 40s—already have early warning signs of metabolic syndrome, which raises the risk for diabetes and heart disease.
Researchers looked at health data from over 390,000 people and found these issues are more common than many might think.

Men face higher risk than women

Men seem to be hit harder: about 38% had high triglycerides (a type of fat in your blood) and nearly half had low "good" cholesterol, compared to lower rates for women.
Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed when you have a mix of problems like belly fat, high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, or high blood sugar.

Early screening matters

The study highlights that around one-third had low good cholesterol or high triglycerides—red flags that can show up years before diabetes is diagnosed.
With millions of Indians living with undetected diabetes, catching these signs early could make a real difference in staying healthy down the line.
