What's the story

Three sisters allegedly died by suicide in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The victims were identified as Nishika (16), Prachi (14), and Pakhi (12). According to NDTV, they took the extreme step after their parents allegedly objected to their online gaming addiction. They jumped from the ninth floor of their apartment building in Bharat City around 2:30am. A suicide note was recovered from their home with the words "Mummy, Papa sorry."

Possible motive

Sisters were addicted to online game

Preliminary investigations indicate that the sisters were addicted to a Korean online task-based gaming app. The addiction reportedly started during the COVID-19 pandemic. Neighbors heard a loud noise and alerted authorities, after which police arrived at the scene. The bodies were sent for postmortem examination while the apartment was secured for further investigation.

Ongoing investigation

Police probing family's digital activity

The police are now investigating the family's digital activity and mobile phones. Cyber experts may be called in to analyze online interactions and app usage history. However, it is yet to be confirmed if the sisters' suicide was directly linked to their gaming addiction. The exact reason behind this tragic incident remains unclear as investigations continue.
