Delhi businessman dies after delivery agents attack him with helmets

A 36-year-old businessman, Shivam Gupta, died after being brutally attacked by delivery agents in Connaught Place, Delhi. The incident occurred on January 2 near the Rajiv Chowk metro station when Gupta had gone to attend a party with a friend. According to police, a disagreement broke out when he requested a group of delivery partners for some water to drink. The altercation quickly escalated and during the confrontation, three people allegedly attacked him.

Delivery agents kicked, punched Gupta mercilessly
The delivery agents reportedly hit Gupta with helmets, kicked, and punched him mercilessly. They left him bleeding and unconscious on the road. Police received a call around 1:30am on January 3 about an unconscious man lying in a pool of blood. Gupta was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors found multiple severe head injuries and a haematoma. Due to his critical condition, he couldn't record a statement.

Family informed about the incident later
Gupta's family was worried when he didn't return home that night and couldn't reach him on his phone. They were later informed by the police that he had been admitted to a hospital. On January 4, he was referred to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where surgery was performed the next day. Despite initial signs of improvement, Gupta succumbed to his injuries on January 19 after days of fighting for his life.

Two suspects arrested, efforts on to trace others
Police officials inspected the crime scene and collected bloodstained evidence. CCTV footage was also examined as part of the investigation. An initial case has been registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Two suspects have been arrested so far while efforts are on to trace others allegedly involved in this incident. "Our son was killed brutally. We want strict action against those responsible so that no other family has to go through this pain," the victim's family alleged.
