What's the story

A Maruti Brezza, suspected to be used by the Red Fort bomber Dr. Umar un Nabi for reconnaissance, has been seized from Haryana's Al-Falah University campus, per TOI. The car was registered under the name of Dr. Shaheen Shahid, a key suspect in the blast case. This is the third vehicle linked to the blast case after a white Hyundai i20 and a red Ford EcoSport. The i20 was detonated near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday evening, killing 13 people.

Ongoing investigation

Brezza discovered during search operations

The Brezza was discovered during a massive search operation by Delhi Police and other agencies. "The missing third car is suspected to have been used by the accused for reconnaissance or escape. Multiple teams are looking for the third car," a source told India Today. The search operations extended beyond Delhi into the National Capital Region and neighboring states.

Investigation progress

Investigators analyzing surveillance footage

Investigators are now focusing on analyzing surveillance footage, tracking vehicle registrations, and coordinating with local law enforcement. They believe that identifying the Maruti Brezza could provide crucial insights into the planning and execution of the Red Fort attack. Faridabad Police have also detained a man named Faheem, who parked the EcoSport. He is reportedly related to Dr. Umar and is being questioned about his involvement in logistics and planning for vehicle use.

The red EcoSport was found outside a farmhouse belonging to an acquaintance of Umar near Khandawali village on Wednesday. Faridabad Police spokesperson Yashpal Singh said over 30 cars parked in the medical college premises have been checked. "The suspicious vehicle is being examined by the Jammu and Kashmir Police team as part of the ongoing probe," Singh added. Sources close to the blast inquiry told NDTV that 32 vehicles were being prepared to carry explosive materials and/or deliver bombs.
