Banks to be closed for 19 days in December 2025

India

Banks in some locations across India could be closed for up to 19 days in December, thanks to a mix of national and local holidays.
While Christmas on December 25 is the only holiday everyone shares, cities like Shillong, Panaji, Gangtok, Aizawl, Kohima, and Imphal have extra days off that could catch you off guard.

What dates should you watch out for?

Besides the usual Sundays and second/fourth Saturdays when banks are shut, there are unique local holidays: Indigenous Faith Day (Dec 1) in Itanagar and Kohima; Feast of St. Francis Xavier (Dec 3) in Panaji; Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma memorial (Dec 12) in Shillong; Goa Liberation Day (Dec 19) in Panaji.
Plus, festivals like Losoong (Dec 20 & 22) in Gangtok and extended Christmas celebrations from Dec 24-26 in Aizawl, Kohima, and Shillong, and on Dec 27 in Kohima, mean even more closures.

How does this affect you?

If you need to visit your bank for anything important—like cash deposits or cheque clearing—plan ahead.
Digital banking will still work just fine during these breaks, but over-the-counter services won't be available on these closed days.
So if you've got deadlines or big transactions coming up this month, it's smart to check your local holiday list before heading out.
