Bengal man sentenced to death for minor's rape, murder
A special POCSO court in Jalpaiguri has sentenced Haripada Roy to death for raping and murdering his 11-year-old neighbor. The crime happened on September 29, when the girl was abducted from outside her home. The court called it a "rarest of rare" case, pointing out that Roy's own daughter was the same age as the victim.
Roy was neighbor of victim's family
Besides the death sentence, Judge Rintu Sur gave Roy seven more years in jail and a fine for tampering with evidence. The court also ordered ₹5 lakh compensation for the victim's family. Police arrested Roy after eyewitness accounts linked him to the crime, and they found key evidence at his house following a missing complaint from the girl's uncle.
