Bengaluru: Ex-Professor nabbed for stealing ₹32L in wedding jewelry

India

A 46-year-old former Kannada lecturer, Revathi, was arrested in Bengaluru for stealing gold jewelry worth ₹32 lakh from crowded wedding venues.
Disguised as a guest, she blended in at weekend ceremonies—especially on Sundays—taking advantage of moments when women removed their jewelry during rituals at places like Dwarkanath Kalyana Mantapa.

How police caught her—and why she did it

The case kicked off after a Manjunatha Nagar resident reported missing gold from a wedding on November 23, 2025.
CCTV footage pointed to Revathi, who was arrested at her Udayanagar home on December 1.
During questioning, she confessed to several thefts across Bengaluru and other districts.
Police recovered stolen gold from her house and a local bank.
Revathi told police that mounting medical bills for her husband's heart condition and her son's education pushed her into these crimes.
