Bengaluru techie's suicide sparks arrests over alleged harassment

India

A Bengaluru tech professional, Murali Govindaraju, died by suicide and left a note blaming his neighbors, Shashi and Usha Nambiar, for harassment and extortion.
His mother filed a complaint, leading to the couple's arrest for abetment to suicide.
The case has highlighted issues of alleged harassment and property disputes in the area, according to police investigations.

What led up to this?

The trouble reportedly began with a property dispute in 2018 after Govindaraju bought land from the Nambiars's relative.
He accused the couple of demanding money and getting civic officials involved to pressure him about building plan violations.
Police are now investigating both the Nambiars—currently in 14-day custody—and several civic officials named in the case, while also searching for their son Varun.
Other residents have come forward with similar complaints against the couple.
