Bengaluru: Tomato, drumstick prices soar due to weather disruptions
India
Veggie shopping in Bengaluru just got pricier—tomatoes are now ₹80 per kg (and could hit ₹100), and drumsticks have soared from ₹200 to ₹350 per kg.
The main culprit? Unpredictable weather messing with supplies.
Why the sudden spike?
Heavy rains have slashed tomato crops in Kolar and damaged harvests in Maharashtra, so fewer tomatoes are making it to markets.
Drumstick supply is also down since shipments from Gujarat and Rajasthan got disrupted, leaving Tamil Nadu as the main source—and prices climbing.
Meanwhile, onions are actually cheaper right now because too much moisture caused spoilage, but other veggies remain expensive since the usual avarekai harvest is running late.
