Caste census to combine central, state OBC lists
The Modi-led NDA government is likely to update its caste census by using both the Central and State Lists of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
This change comes after the 2011 census was criticized for unreliable data and aims to fix gaps where some state-recognized castes were left out.
The process will also go digital to help cut down on mistakes.
Why accurate OBC data is important
Getting OBC numbers right matters for fair policies, social welfare, and who gets access to opportunities like education or jobs.
By including both lists, the government hopes to make sure every group is counted—especially those missed before—so future decisions about resources and support are based on real data, not guesswork.
