Chhattisgarh train accident: FIR filed against unidentified person

A tragic train accident near Gatora station in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, left 11 people dead and 20 injured when a MEMU passenger train ran a red signal and crashed into a stationary freight train on November 4, 2024.
The passenger train, traveling from Gevra to Bilaspur Junction, failed to stop at signal AJ-5, leading to the fatal collision.

Driver killed on spot

Police have filed an FIR against an unidentified person for "death by negligence" under the IPC and Railway Act.
The crash killed the driver instantly and left his co-pilot in critical condition.
Rescue teams wrapped up work by November 5, with trains running again soon after.
To support those affected, the government announced ₹10 lakh compensation for families of those who died, ₹5 lakh for the seriously injured, and ₹50,000 for minor injuries.
