Coimbatore: 44 students hospitalized after lizard found in meal
India
At a government school in Coimbatore, 44 students had to be hospitalized on March 10, 2026 after a lizard was found in their midday meal.
The group included both boys and girls.
Repeated incidents raise concerns about safety of midday meals
This is not the first time something like this has happened. In early February 2026, a similar episode was reported near Pollachi, where students at the Dasanayakanpalayam school were affected.
There was also a case earlier this year involving contaminated meals. With BJP leader Vinoj P Selvam calling the situation "shocking and heartbreaking," these repeated incidents are making people question how safe and hygienic India's midday meal scheme really is for students.
