    As the coronavirus crisis in India worsens, three more deaths due to the viral disease were reported. The latest deaths involve a 38-year-old man in Patna, a 63-year-old man in Mumbai, and a 69-year-old man in Surat. The death toll now stands at seven. The development comes as the total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 341. Here are more details.

    69-year-old dies in Surat marking first coronavirus death in Gujarat

    In what is the first coronavirus-related death in Gujarat, a 69-year-old man died at a Surat hospital on Sunday, the state's Department of Health and Family Welfare declared. The patient had co-morbid conditions. A suspected coronavirus patient, a 65-year-old woman, also died in Vadodara. Her COVID-19 test reports are still awaited. The total number of cases in Gujarat also rose to 18 on Sunday.

    Coronavirus patient in Patna died from kidney failure

    The death in Patna involved a 38-year-old man who had a travel history to Qatar. According to ANI, the man died from kidney failure at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna on Sunday. He hailed from Munger in Bihar. Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh of the hospital told ANI that he had returned from Kolkata, West Bengal, two days ago.

    Deceased Mumbai patient had history of chronic diseases

    According to ANI, the 63-year-old patient in Mumbai passed away last night. He had tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Mumbai's Public Health Department said the man had a chronic history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and ischemic heart disease. The man was a resident of Walkeshwar and had been admitted to the HN Reliance hospital for a respiratory ailment, Mumbai Mirror reported.

    India's coronavirus death toll climbs to 6

    Earlier this month, a 76-year-old man died in Karnataka's Kalaburagi, marking India's first COVID-19 death. Thereafter, a 68-year-old woman in Delhi and a 64-year-old man in Mumbai died. On Thursday, a 72-year-old male resident of the Pathlawa village in Punjab's Nawanshahr district died from the disease. Separately, an Italian tourist in Jaipur, who had just recovered from COVID-19, died of cardiac arrest on Friday.

    341 coronavirus cases reported across India

    The ICMR, India's apex health research body, confirmed 341 positive coronavirus cases on Sunday. The Health Ministry website is yet to update the state-wise status. As of 11:45 am on Sunday, Maharashtra had recorded 63 cases, the highest in the country for any state.

    India evacuates 263 people from Rome ahead of flight ban

    The latest death comes as India observes a nationwide voluntary curfew to limit the spread of COVID-19. Starting Sunday, all incoming international flights have also been banned in India for one week. Ahead of the ban, a special Air India flight evacuated 263 Indian students and compassionate cases from Rome, Italy. The evacuees were taken to ITBP's quarantine facility in Delhi's Chhawla after screening.

    What is COVID-19?

    COVID-19 was first reported in China's Wuhan city in December 2019. The disease is caused by a novel coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. The virus attacks a host's respiratory system triggering symptoms such as fever, cough, and breathing difficulties. In severe cases, it may cause pneumonia, multiple organ failure, or death. COVID-19 has spread to at least 150 countries, killing over 13,000 and sickening 3 lakh.
