Delhi to seize old diesel and petrol cars, excludes CNG
From July 1, 2025, Delhi will stop selling fuel to diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles older than 15 years.
Over 500 city fuel stations already have cameras to spot these older cars, following a push from the Commission for Air Quality Management.
Fuel station staff will be trained to refuse service and keep track of denied vehicles.
Impact on older vehicles
This move is all about tackling Delhi's air pollution—older petrol and diesel cars are big polluters.
If you drive an affected vehicle, it could be impounded and scrapped if caught at a pump.
The rule applies no matter where your car is registered.
Authorities also plan to expand these measures across NCR cities soon, aiming for cleaner air and healthier living for everyone in the region.
CNG vehicles over 15 years are currently exempt.
