Delhi Zoo to reopen in October? Bird flu tests negative

India

Delhi Zoo, closed since August 30 after bird deaths and a confirmed bird flu outbreak, could welcome visitors again in October.
Recent tests for avian influenza have come back negative, and director Sanjeet Kumar says fresh samples will be sent for testing early next month.
If those are clear too, the zoo is set to reopen soon.

Third shutdown due to bird flu

New samples from the aviary and animal enclosures will go to the National Institute for High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal.
If all goes well with the results and approvals, gates could open quickly.
The zoo has faced similar closures before—this marks its third shutdown due to bird flu since 2016.
Opened in 1959, Delhi Zoo is located right in the heart of the city.
