DGCA summons IndiGo after over 1,200 flight cancelations
IndiGo is in hot water with India's aviation regulator after canceling more than 1,200 flights in November.
The DGCA has called the airline in for answers and wants quick fixes to get things back on track.
On December 4 alone, over 150 flights were canceled nationwide, hitting major airports like Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
Major chaos at Bengaluru and Kolkata airports
Bengaluru took the biggest hit with 73 canceled flights in a single day.
Kolkata wasn't spared either—besides four cancelations, there were 24 delays (including two international flights).
All this pushed IndiGo's on-time performance down to just 35%, the worst among big Indian airlines.
What's causing the mess?
IndiGo says crew shortages are a big reason—thanks to new rules that limit pilot flying hours and require longer rest breaks.
They also pointed to tech glitches, bad weather, winter schedule changes, and crowded airports piling onto their problems.
What happens next?
The DGCA wants a solid plan from IndiGo on how they'll fix these issues fast—especially around staffing and operations.
The DGCA has initiated an investigation and is demanding a detailed plan from IndiGo to address the disruptions.
