Doctor accuses cop of rape in suicide note
In Satara, Maharashtra, a 28- or 29-year-old government doctor died by suicide on October 23, leaving behind a note accusing police sub-inspector Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping her.
The post-mortem confirmed she died from hanging and showed no external or internal injuries.
Her family says she had faced ongoing pressure and harassment.
Both accused have been arrested
Badane was dismissed from the police force on November 4 for "unethical, indecent, and irresponsible behavior by misusing his position," according to Satara's Superintendent of Police.
He is now facing charges of rape and abetment of suicide.
Meanwhile, Prashant Bankar—a software engineer the doctor accused of mental harassment—has been arrested for abetment to suicide and is in police custody as investigations continue into the claims of misconduct raised by the victim's family.
