Ex-RAW officer, IPS Raghuram Rajan's father passes away at 94
India
Raghavachari Govindarajan, the father of ex-RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, passed away in Chennai this Tuesday at age 94.
A respected IPS officer from the 1953 batch, Govindarajan was part of the founding batch of India's external intelligence agency, RAW, and retired as chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee after a 36-year career.
Scholarship to be launched in his honor
Govindarajan leaves behind his wife Mythili and four children who've made their own mark—one son was a Tata Sons executive, another works in US renewable energy, and his daughter's husband once chaired India's financial reporting authority.
To celebrate his legacy, the Radhakrishnan-Govindarajan Rhodes Scholarship will launch next year to support Indian students heading to Oxford University.
