What's the story

In a tragic incident, a man and his three daughters died by suicide in Mishrauliya village of Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. According to ABP News, the deceased have been identified as Amarnath Ram (36-37) and his daughters Anuradha Kumari (11-12), Shivani Kumari (around 10), and Radhika Kumari (around 7-8). Initial reports suggest that Ram also tried to hang his two sons, Shivam (6) and Chandan (around 4), but they survived.

Possible motive

Financial stress suspected as motive behind tragic incident

The incident, which took place late on Sunday night, has left the village in shock and grief. Villagers said Ram was under severe financial stress and had been struggling with debt. He reportedly depended on irregular work for income and was also alleged to be addicted to alcohol. The family had dinner together before the incident, with one of the deceased daughters cooking scrambled eggs, potatoes, soybean vegetables, and rice.

Ongoing investigation

Investigation underway, bodies sent for post-mortem

After the incident, Ram's two sons informed villagers, who then alerted the police. The Sakra police reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The report quoted Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), East-2, Manoj Kumar Singh as saying, "The exact cause of the incident can only be known after the post-mortem examination." Police are probing locals to understand more about this tragic event.

Reportedly, Ram asked his children to stand on a steel trunk and put nooses around their necks with sarees belonging to their deceased mother. He then asked them to jump off the trunk before doing the same himself. However, Shivam said when he jumped, he felt pain in his neck and managed to loosen the noose. He then removed the noose from his younger brother Chandan's neck, saving both their lives. Police are currently keeping both boys in their care.
