'It attacked my neck': UP local narrates killer wolf attack
Residents of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, are living in fear following a series of deadly wolf attacks that have claimed eight lives over the past two months. The victims include seven children and one woman. So far, four wolves have been captured under "Operation Bhediya," but the search for two more is still underway. Recently, a man and a child were also reportedly attacked by these animals, further escalating the terror among locals.
Victims recount terrifying encounters with wolves
One of the victims, who wished to remain anonymous, told ANI about his harrowing encounter. "At 4 in the morning an animal attacked me. He attacked my neck with its jaws...If I would not have caught his mouth, he would have killed me," he said. Another eyewitness, the uncle of a child victim, recounted how they chased away a wolf that had attacked his nephew at 1:30am. "When we screamed then the wolf left him and went away," he said.
Medical and forest officials investigate wolf attacks
Dr. Ashish Verma, Incharge at Mahasi Civil Health Centre, confirmed that both victims suffered minor injuries but are not in critical condition. However, he clarified that the determination of whether these were wolf attacks falls under the jurisdiction of the forest department. On Sunday, Abhishek Singh, CO Forest, Bahraich Division revealed that they had detected two wolves using drones and plan to capture them soon.
Forest department intensifies efforts to capture wolves
Since last week, the forest department has intensified its efforts to capture the remaining wolves. Traps were set up in Sisayya Chudaamani village, where the fourth wolf was captured last Thursday. To deter further attacks, officials are also bursting firecrackers at night. Circle Officer of Mahasi, Rupendra Gaur stated that drones, nets and cages are being used in their ongoing efforts to ensure no more incidents occur.
