Goodbye, September! Mumbai's monsoon is still here
Mumbai's monsoon isn't saying goodbye just yet—thanks to a stubborn low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, the rainy season is delayed past October 5, 2024.
September showers were intense, with rainfall nearly 60% above normal. Colaba and Santacruz both saw over 600mm of rain, and city lakes are nearly full.
IMD forecast: Rain expected through October 6
The IMD says expect mostly cloudy skies and moderate rain through October 6, with temps staying between 24°C and 32°C.
More showers (and maybe thundershowers) could hit on October 6 and 7.
While there aren't any active warnings right now, ongoing rain means a real risk of waterlogging and travel delays.
Why getting the monsoon forecast right is crucial
Getting monsoon forecasts right is key for keeping Mumbai running smoothly—think flood management, city planning, and everyone's safety.
Even though water supply isn't an issue this year, the extra-long wet spell means we all need to stay alert for flooding and disruptions as October rolls on.
