Gurgaon to suspend driving licenses for drunk drivers
India
Gurgaon is getting serious about road safety—if you're caught drunk driving, your license may be suspended for 3-6 months on the first offense.
Get caught again, and you could lose it for good under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Authorities are moving beyond just fines to include license suspensions.
Why the crackdown?
The crackdown follows a sharp rise in accidents—between January and June 2025 alone, Gurgaon saw 541 crashes and 223 deaths.
Over 5,000 people have already been fined for alcohol-related offenses this year.
To make roads safer, officials are also tightening up how licenses are given out, improving accident-prone spots like Sector 29 and MG Road, and running more public awareness campaigns.
