India climbs to 77th spot in 2025 Henley Passport Index
India's passport just made a solid jump, currently holding the 77th position in the 2025 Henley Passport Index.
Now, Indian travelers can access more than 60 countries visa-free or with visa-on-arrival—a handy upgrade, especially for trips across Africa and Southeast Asia.
Visa-free access to over 100 destinations
With these changes, Indian passport holders have easier entry to over 100 destinations. That includes short, visa-free stays in places like the Philippines (up to two weeks), plus open borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
Still, India lags behind many countries on travel freedom and hasn't matched its best-ever rank from back in 2006.
Regional and global shifts in rankings
Asian countries are setting the pace—Singapore tops the chart with access to 193 destinations, followed by Japan and South Korea at 190 each.
Meanwhile, the UK and US have slipped down to sixth and 10th place.
For young Indians dreaming of global adventures, there's progress—but still some catching up to do.
