'India sends humanitarian aid to cyclone-hit Madagascar'
After two back-to-back cyclones devastated Madagascar in early 2026, India stepped up with 30 metric tons of humanitarian aid.
The storms hit hard, one at the end of January 2026 and the other in early-mid February 2026 (about 10 days later) with sustained winds around 180km/h and gusts up to 250km/h, leaving behind widespread damage across dozens of districts.
Relief arrives in the form of medical supplies, tents, and food
An Indian Air Force plane flew into the capital, Antananarivo, carrying medical supplies, tents, water tanks, dignity kits, and ready-to-eat meals.
This help arrives at a critical time: nearly 424,000 people were affected by the cyclones, thousands lost their homes or crops, and food insecurity is rising.
India's support provides immediate relief but substantial funding gaps for the broader response remain in a country that faces these disasters all too often.
